I work on helping the people doing society's most important work use AI well: researchers through the Observatory for AI in Science, and nonprofits through the AI for Impact Collective. Alongside that, I'm open to freelance projects one day a week.

Leading a team to work on AI in educationEen team leiden dat werkt aan AI in het onderwijs

Youth for Responsible AI gives young people a say in how AI shapes our future. I was one of about 20 fellows selected from more than 1,200 applicants, and we focused on how AI is changing education.

The problem is everywhere: students let AI write their essay, hand it in, get an A and learn nothing. You could blame the student, but they're in a system that rewards the shortcut, and teachers get very little guidance. So we built an AI literacy kit for educators. It doesn't hand out rules. It gives students classroom activities where they experience for themselves what AI does for them, and what it takes away.

Youth for Responsible AI geeft jongeren een stem in hoe AI onze toekomst vormt.

My responsibilitiesMijn verantwoordelijkheden

  • Building partnerships with educational institutions across Europe.
  • Leading outreach to get the kit to educators and policymakers, and into classrooms.
  • Running the final focus group with teachers from around the world, who are now using the activities in their own classes.

Screen-Aware is a small web tool that makes screen time tangible. You enter your age and your average daily screen time outside of work, across phone, TV and streaming. It then draws the rest of your life as a grid of months: sleep, work, chores, cooking, travel, hygiene, and what's left over as free time.

Then it shows how much of that free time goes to screens. With my own 5 hours a day, it came to 55%.

Confronterend.

I built it in two weeks after watching a TED talk by Dino Ambrosi. It has reached more than 400,000 people. It comes from a conviction that runs through all my work: technology should serve human wellbeing, not the other way around.

Founding a non-profit and growing it to 12 people in a monthEen non-profit oprichten en in 1 maand laten groeien naar 12 mensen

During my business studies I saw two things. Social organisations often have big chances to increase their impact but lack the people or time to act on them. And plenty of smart, creative students don't yet know what they want to do after graduating.

So I founded ED&E Consulting: high-quality advice for social organisations on a limited budget, delivered by motivated students coached by experienced consultants. The name is the programme: Explore other cultures, Develop real skills, Evolve into a better you.

Within a month, 12 student volunteers had joined, from seven countries. I ran the organisation and led the management project.

Our values: transparency (admit when we lack expertise), development (“the only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing”), and impact, always goal number one.

Community developmentGemeenschapsontwikkelingMake the hospital independent of the NGO in the long run, with government officials, development experts and the hospital board.

At the end I travelled to Ghana for five weeks, visiting 11 hospitals across the country with a larger partner non-profit. It was a culture shock and a lesson I still carry: aid that makes people dependent can hold back local entrepreneurs. That trip is why I moved into social entrepreneurship.

Selling Impact

A podcast about the business side of doing good. I talked with impact entrepreneurs about how they sell sustainability to large corporates, build partnership strategies that drive growth, and scale without losing their mission.

It grew out of my LinkedIn posts on selling impact, which went viral in the Netherlands several times and reached more than 70,000 people.

My first podcast. Real conversations with people whose lives look nothing like mine, from a farmer in Africa to a hospital manager in Ghana, to hear how they see the world.

Mijn eerste podcast.

Each episode takes one theme: discipline, happiness, growing up, manhood, money, relationships. I recorded much of it while living in Ghana.
